Admissions at MDCR Rehab
Our San Diego intake team honors your background, your language, and your story — because healing must begin with respect.
The Admissions Process
At MDCR Rehab, we believe that seeking help should never feel like a barrier. Our admissions team on Fifth Avenue in the Hillcrest neighborhood guides you through every step with respect for your background, your language, and your comfort level. The process typically takes under 24 hours from your first call to arrival.
Step 1: Confidential Phone Assessment
Call us at (209) 764-2870. A trained admissions counselor will gather basic information about your situation, substance use history, and any co-occurring conditions. This call is free, confidential, and carries no obligation.
Step 2: Insurance Verification
We verify your benefits directly with your insurance provider, typically within 1 to 2 hours. We accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicaid, Medicare, Humana, Magellan, ComPsych, and MultiPlan. If you are uninsured, we will discuss private pay options and sliding-scale arrangements.
Step 3: Clinical Pre-Screening
A clinical coordinator conducts a brief assessment to determine the most appropriate level of care, whether that is medical detox, residential treatment, or outpatient programming. We account for cultural considerations, dietary needs, and any accommodations that will help you feel safe.
Step 4: Arrival & Intake
Upon arrival at our Hillcrest campus, you will meet your treatment team, receive a full medical evaluation, and settle into your room. Our 131-member staff ensures personalized attention from the moment you walk through the door.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does each level of treatment last?
Medical detox typically lasts 3 to 7 days, depending on the substance and severity of dependence. According to NIDA research, residential programs of 90 days or longer yield significantly higher sustained sobriety rates, which is why our residential track spans 30 to 90 days based on clinical assessment. Outpatient programming runs 8 to 12 weeks, with studies showing that consistent attendance through at least week 8 correlates with a 40 to 60 percent reduction in relapse risk.
What insurance plans do you accept?
We accept Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicaid, Medicare, Humana, Magellan, ComPsych, and MultiPlan. Data from our admissions department shows that approximately 87 percent of clients who contact us have at least partial coverage through one of these carriers. Our verification team confirms your benefits within 1 to 2 hours, so you know your financial responsibility before arriving.
Is medical detox supervised around the clock?
Yes. Our detox unit maintains 24/7 physician and nursing coverage. Research published in the Journal of Substance Abuse Treatment indicates that medically supervised withdrawal management reduces the risk of life-threatening complications by over 70 percent compared to unsupervised attempts. We use medication-assisted treatment (MAT) protocols tailored to each substance, whether alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, or fentanyl.
Can family members visit during treatment?
Family involvement is available through our scheduled weekend visitation program. Peer-reviewed studies in Addiction Science & Clinical Practice show that family participation in treatment increases the likelihood of completing a full program by approximately 25 percent. We hold family therapy sessions and educational workshops to help loved ones understand addiction and support long-term recovery.
Do you offer culturally adapted programming?
Absolutely. Cultural responsiveness is central to everything we do at MDCR Rehab. Over 9 years of operation and more than 6,600 clients served, we have developed treatment protocols that respect diverse cultural backgrounds, spiritual practices, dietary customs, and language preferences. Research from the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism demonstrates that culturally adapted interventions improve treatment engagement by 30 to 50 percent compared to standard approaches.
What substances do you treat?
We treat alcohol, opioids (including heroin and fentanyl), amphetamines, benzodiazepines, GHB, crack cocaine, and cocaine. CDC data shows that polysubstance use is involved in roughly 50 percent of overdose deaths nationally, which is why our clinical team conducts comprehensive screening for all substance categories at intake. Each treatment plan is built around the specific pharmacology of the substances involved, ensuring medically appropriate withdrawal management and targeted therapeutic intervention.
